Entry requirements

Entry requirements are subject to interview. The Head of WorkSkills builds relationships very early on in Year 11 to aid a smooth transition into Year 12. This is done by liaising with schools and their SENCOs to fully understand the needs of each individual. Students will attend our Taster Days and the Induction Day as well as attending the Sixth Form for further familiarisation and transition work. The Work Placement Coordinators will discuss work place options, organise placements and take students along to their interviews.

BTEC Work Skills offers students the opportunity to work towards a Level 2 in year 12 and Level 3 in year 13. The qualification can be tailored to suit their needs by working towards award, certificate, extended certificate or diploma alongside a work placement two days a week. These courses allows pupils to gain practical work experience and a valuable insight into the world of work.

There are a range of units that can be studied, some examples are: managing your own money, searching for a job, applying for a job, interview skills, working in a team, planning for work placement and career progression. Pupils can progress from Level 2 in Year 12 onto the Level 3 in Year 13, both of which o er a two day placement to increase their skills in the workplace. Ultimately, this course can allow students to progress onto further vocational education, apprenticeships or employment.


The Teacher with responsibility for Work Skills placements and our Connexions Adviser work closely with individual students who are progressing into work, apprenticeships
or further study to ensure that each student has a clear progression route. This is regardless whether the students stays with us for one or two years. Guided lesson time is set aside to give students the opportunity to take a pro-active approach

in researching their possible future prospects. Each student is provided with specific individual support to ensure a successful onward transition.

Ways to help my child succeed

Students should be encouraged to complete all homework given which may help them complete their coursework. In addition to this students may be asked to take paperwork linked to their coursework into their work placement to help them complete aspects of their coursework.
