GCSE Results Day
Twice in two weeks!
Following the record breaking successes of last week’s sixth form results that place the school in the top 10% of schools nationally for student achievement with almost half the entries at A and A* or equivalent, Archbishop Holgate’s students are once again celebrating results that exceed the expected performance of the top 25% of similar schools nationally.
Headteacher Andrew Daly says “We are really proud of what Year 11 have achieved, their results are really strong and based on their targets the progress that they have made is as good as ever. This is a credit to the hard work of both students and staff”
We are particularly proud of our 3 Levels of progress in English and Maths, which demonstrates that our students whatever their capability achieve. 72% of our students in English and in Maths achieved an A*-C, with over half the entries at A*-B or equivalent and 65% of students achieving 5 A* to C including English and Maths.
Helen Dowds Deputy Head says “These results are a testament to all the hard work and dedication of both Staff and students. As the government raises the bar on GCSE standards it is really pleasing to see our students holding their own once again.”
With our students reaping the rewards of their hard work and commitment, the majority will be looking forward to starting on their AS levels or Level 3 BTECs very soon. “We will be delighted to accept many of our students back into our thriving sixth form to start demanding post 16 courses in a couple of weeks’ time” said Mr Green-Harding, Head of Sixth Form.

This morning has seen huge celebrations at Archbishop Holgate’s School. Miss Turvey Head of Year 11 said “I am absolutely delighted with the results and they are a true reflection of the hard work, dedication and positive work ethic which the Year 11 students have shown throughout the last year. As well as outstanding results they have contributed to the wider school through charity fundraising, commitments to school sports teams, drama productions, volunteering within the school community and organised a fabulous celebratory PROM. I look forward to seeing many of them in our Sixth Form, and for those who are choosing alternative pathways, I wish them all the best and cannot understate how very proud I am of each and everyone of my Year 11’s”

Mr. Daly, Head Teacher said “I would like to congratulate our students on their achievements this morning and look forward to welcoming the vast majority back to continue their studies at our Sixth Form. For the staff it is a great privilege to be part of an outstanding school and to know we’ve made a real difference in the lives of these young people. On a day like this academic results are important, but we believe that our students leave Archbishop Holgate’s with much more. Underpinned by our commitment to ‘Values, Care and Achievement’ our students are well rounded young people ready to make positive contributions to the communities they serve and to have a rich and fulfilling life in the world beyond school. We wish all our student the best of luck for the future.
